3 Off road adventures in Colombia, Santander

If you’re interested in the larger surroundings, we’re offering some great trips by 4×4.

1. Galán – La Fuente – Zapatoca – Giron – Chicamocha

Day 1 : We leave from the finca towards Galán, the village located at the foot of PN Serranía de los Yariguíes, which you can see in the distance from the finca. On the way we will stop enough to enjoy the spectacular views and the surroundings.

After visiting Galán, we will continue our trip to La Fuente where we will have a short stop. This day’s final destination is Zapatoca, where we will drive in the eve to the “los Guanes” mirador.

This viewpoint offers perhaps the best views of the Chicamocha cañon when weather conditions are favorable. A MUST DO !

Day 2 : After breakfast we drive in descending order to Girón, originally a small village but now almost absorbed by Bucaramanga capital of the department of Santander. Here we stop for lunch and provide an hour to explore the colonial village center.

In the afternoon we drive straight through the Chicamocha cañon toward San Gil.

We stop at the entrance to the P.N. Chicamocha, to admire the unreal panorama over the cañon.

For those who still have time in the following days, it is possible to visit this Theme Park P.N. Chicamocha. From Barichara over San Gil, this is easy to do on your own.

Includes :

Overnight and breakfast in Zapatoca

2. Villanueva where the two rivers Suarez and Chicamocha merge

We leave from the finca towards Villanueva through the veredas Lubigara and El Caucho, the roads are only passable in dry weather, even with a 4×4.

The option in case of bad weather is Barichara – Villaneuva via the public road. In Villanueva we will have a short coffee stop.

We then continue our tour and stop at the mirador El Espinal before continuing on an old mining road towards la junta (the confluence) of the Suarez and Chicamocha rivers.

We drive (depending on the state of the road) up to the bank and have lunch there, after which we drive back towards the finca on mostly the same roads.

Includes :

Picnic by the river
Transport 4×4

3. Guané and Cabrera

We leave from the finca in Lubigara “off road” to Guané. After a short stop in Guané, we continue our descent to the Suarez River. Here we disembark and cross the river via the Puente Ruedas (pedestrian bridge). We return to Guane via the same road to have lunch.

After noon we continue our trek to the beautiful and tiny village of Cabrera. After our stop in Cabrera, there is another long drive towards San Gil on partly paved and unpaved roads. From San Gil we are half an hour into Barichara and almost back at the finca.

Lunch in Guane
